阿富汗台北時間昨天（26）發生芮氏規模七點五的強震，目前已知造成兩百多人死亡。氣象局地震測報中心主任郭鎧紋指出，這起地震釋放的能量，大約是「九二一大地震」的一半，不過因為當地建物不耐震，才會造成重大傷亡。（閻大富報導）
根據「美國地質調查所」的報告，這起規模七點五的強震震央，距離阿富汗首都喀布爾大約兩百五十多公里，也就是與巴基斯坦接壤的興都庫什山脈地區，所幸震源深度有兩百多公里，不然傷亡恐怕會更慘重。
氣象局地震測報中心主任郭鎧紋指出，這個區域的強震原因是印度板塊和歐亞大陸板塊擠壓造成，和今年四月尼泊爾的強震正好東西相對。
郭鎧紋說，當地的地震儀設備不多，因此，詳細的震度可能無法確實掌握。而根據測量，這起地震的芮氏規模七點五，大約是台灣九二一大地震能量的一半。
根據統計，全球規模七以上的地震，每年平均只有二十起，阿富汗與巴基斯坦、印度這塊區域，發生過不少威力強大的地震，因建物耐震能力差，傷亡總是很嚴重。
